Draft video story

The premiere tool is a very interesting tool to edit videos. At first, I really didn’t understand how to work with the tool but through the tutorials I eventually learned how to use it. The first issues that I faced with the tutorials is that I didn’t understand how to upload the video footage but through my phone I was able to airdrop all of the footage that I got. I had a really fun time filming all of my footage for my project and coming up with it. It was a fun challenge to determine what I had to film to make an interesting story. I already had lots of footage from times I took, but I needed to go rock climb a little more to make the story fully flesh out. Once I had all of my footage, I was pretty easily able to edit it. After the tutorials I really understood how to edit my footage. It was fun in the editing process to get new ideas and being able to edit them into the footage. Such as the floating words that would pop up when I fell of the wall. I think some things that I am going to do with this project in the future is find more footage of me climbing but remember to turn the camera so that its long ways, not short ways. Doing this will make the shots look better on screen. Another thing that I think am going to do is to take footage of me preparing to climb before I go on the wall. I think that it will help with the clean look fast pace look of the beginning of my project had. I had a really fun time with the quick cuts in my project, and I want to put more of them in.

  1. Wow, Griffin! I’m really impressed with how your rough draft video story came out. You had a pretty clear direction with this assignment, and everything seemed to come together really well. I loved the addition of bits of text throughout the video, I thought it added a little some good humor to the video and kept things lighthearted during the shots of you actually climbing. I also really enjoyed the fast paced start of the video because it was really effective at grabbing my attention and getting me engaged in what the video was to be about. For improvements, I really like some of the ideas you mentioned in your blog post! I think adding in clips of the preparation you do before climbing would definitely help bring the video together even more. Additionally I would just suggest adding in videos of you climbing that were taken from different angles, so the viewer can have more variety with what they see. Overall, really solid rough draft. I’m sure your final video will be great too!

  2. After watching my groups video and re-watching my video I had some things that I really enjoyed about my video and some things that I would like to change. I really liked the first part of my video where I had a lot of quick cuts. I thought that it was kind of funny and interesting. Something that I would like to change about my video is that I would like to add a quick cut part where I prepare to climb the wall. I think that it would fit more with the beginning of the video. I think that something I need to change would be the angles of the fail videos I don’t think they fit with the rest of the video because the rest of it was filmed sideways. But I think the main things that I am going to change are the upright videos and add a little quick cut part about how I start my climb.

  3. Griffin I really liked your video and think the theme behind it is super interesting! I love the way you started the video with a lot of small videos combined into a quick video of you getting your stuff and going to your car and driving. I like how you included funny comments on your video when you were about to fall along with the commentary you gave to the process. I think one spot you could improve in is keep talking in the video, tell the listener what is going on in your mind at that point in time on the wall, where are you going to grab, where is your foot going to go, things like that. Overall I think the idea of the video is great and I bet our final project will turn out awesome.

  4. Griffin, your video does a really good job at showcasing your love for rock climbing! The music you have in the background was a good choice, as it fits well and isn’t distracting from the content of the video. The quick cuts at the beginning were used well and added some comedic elements to the video. Using your own footage of climbing was cool and demonstrated that you know a lot about it. The only negative I can think of is the difference in aspect ratios when you get to the videos of you climbing. I guess that could be fixed by re-filming them in landscape mode? That’s all up to you of course, it’s not too big a deal if they’re vertical. Like you said in your blog post, some more shots of you getting ready to climb could be beneficial as well. Overall great video and good work!

  5. Griffin, I really enjoyed getting to watch your video! I really like how you covered everything you would need before you went climbing, and the shots leading up to you arriving at the rock climbing wall. Especially the shot that shows you jumping over the edge of the railing. I also like how you added shots of your failures while climbing. All around you have a great video here! I agree with what the rest of our classmates said, you could include what you do to prepare for climbing and also shoot from different angles.
